Testimonials

March 2019

I was fortunate to have Kate represent me during a very difficult situation in my life. She was always very thorough, and her communication was concise. Kate and Tracy make a fantastic team, and I have no hesitation recommending them. Their hard work resulted in the best possible outcome that I could have expected.

Kate represented this client across both Criminal and Family Court matters achieving a reduced charge, Discharge without Conviction and Final Name Suppression, the Discharge of a Protection Order, and a shared care Final Parenting Order regarding the care of his children.

Kate and her team were instrumental in resolving my legal issue. They demonstrated high levels of commitment and expertise to my situation while creating a relaxed and friendly environment to our discussions. I cannot recommend McHugh Law highly enough!

Transport matter – alternative resolution achieved, without conviction.

I asked Kate for help when I got into strife. It was a horrible experience as a first offender. I had no idea what I should do or who I should talk too. Kate treated me with respect and compassion, and guided to me to the best outcome possible. I would highly recommend McHugh Law.

Being a first offender, I am so glad I was sent to Kate for help. Both Kate and Tracy treated me with compassion and respect, and no question felt too stupid to ask. With Kate’s advice we reached the best outcome regarding my charges, with Tracy keeping me up to date as we went. I highly recommend McHugh Law.

McHugh Law is a highly professional practice, showing huge compassion and respect for all individuals. I am truly grateful for not only the way I was treated prior to and including the court date, but also the outcome.  As a first offender I had no idea what to do or where to go, Kate was reassuring but also realistic about what to expect. She also ensured I had ‘all my ducks in a row’ prior to the court date which helped with the outcome. It was also very comforting to know that Tracy was readily available, either with an instant answer or an ‘I’ll check with Kate and get back to you..’ which was always a reply quicker than I expected.

2018 and earlier

When I contacted Kate at AWS Legal finding myself on the wrong side of the law, I found Kate McHugh to be non-judgemental, honest and very friendly, and always quick to reply to any questions or worries. My outcome was better than I had expected it would be and I would recommend Kate and the rest of her team.

This client was charged with serious cannabis-related charges and received a sentence of home detention.  An Application by the Crown to forfeit the client's home to them as being an instrument in the offending was successfully opposed by Kate and not granted.

Having Kate as my solicitor was the best decision I ever could have made. In a very short period of time I found myself in extremely undesirable and unknown territory having to come before the Court on a serious charge.  It was an incredibly devastating time in my life and Kate made herself available to myself and my family instantly. She kept her head when it felt like I was losing mine and she wanted to fight when I felt like giving up. I never dreamed of obtaining the result I did but Kate wouldn’t give up and in the end it was worth it. I received the best possible outcome that I never thought could happen but Kate wanted it and she fought for it and I am so grateful and happy that she did.  Everything felt like it went by so quickly and I was just amazed at watching Kate work and the way she went about it with such determination and integrity.  I have no idea what I would have done if I didn’t have Kate on my side.

Client charged with serious violence charge – a “Three Strikes” qualifying offence. Kate negotiated a reduction in the level of the charge and made successful applications for a discharge without conviction and permanent name suppression

We thank you Kate for everything and every avenue you tried to get me out of and off this past terrible ordeal we have been through. Especially for enabling permanent name suppression to be applicable and for the removal of bail, any record, nor conviction for the crime I faced. Thank God we can now put it all behind us and move on with our lives. Thank you for making this possible and for your total professionalism throughout all the various stages. Much love and thanks.

Client charged with sexual offending, first time offender.  Discharge without conviction and permanent name suppression applications successful.

I would like to take this time to say thank you so much for your help and support. I have to admit, I was thinking the worst. You are a terrific person and excellent lawyer. I can now move on with my life.

Client charged with serious violent offending and, originally, kidnapping. Mental health was an issue, and a community-based sentence was arrived at on a reduced set of charges.

I was hugely impressed with Kate in court. She spoke clearly and concisely and got the point across easily. I was very impressed by the way Kate represented me – thank you.

Client arrested on an historic warrant regarding dated offending.

Kate has helped me through a lot. I’m glad I’ve had her as a lawyer. She was always open and honest and sometimes she was tough on me – but still wouldn’t stop fighting for me.  I was so close to getting locked up that I thought the Judge had already decided I was going, but Kate stood up and fought for me to have supported bail. I got it and knew I was on my last straw. I was getting bail checked two times a night and breath tested once a night by Police. I went to a course and got myself two jobs, one of them I thought would be impossible to get. Now I’m full time there. I believe it was all thanks to Kate – the best lawyer out!  If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be where I am today.  Thank you so much.

A Youth Court client of Kate’s, who was a client from the age of 13-16 and faced several charges over that period, many of those a result of reoffending whilst on bail or sentence.  The client also had an extensive care and protection history with Oranga Tamariki, and Kate was the Lawyer for Child appointed to the young person by the Ministry of Justice.
